I remember Christmas in Gunlock, the program Christmas eve, the singing, the reading of Luke 2 and the Nativity; Santa coming and giving all of us a present, the one we opened Christmas Eve. Walking out of the church in the dark brittle cold and looking up at the blanket of stars, our breath small white clouds and our feet crunching.

I remember hanging up one of Dad's white socks and finding an orange in it on Christmas morning.

One Christmas there was a Bride Doll with golden hair and a beautiful smile, another a little cupboard with shelves and drawers, full of dishes.

But most of all I remember the feeling of Christmas, the excitement, the family, and the love!

So long ago. . . and still here in my heart.

What do you remember about Christmas?

Here Comes Suzy Snowflake . . .

"I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED DECEMBER. . .
as a special time of year. . ."
We celebrate the birth of baby Jesus,
and the world is quiet and
cold, and waiting. . .
and
because that is when
Suzy arrived!
And she has blessed my life
since the day she was born!
Happy Birthday Suzy!

Fall Roses

Fall Roses

Mother always loved roses

roses in the spring,

new colors

planted,

trimmed,

pruned,

wilted blossoms plucked away

new blooms

appearing

and

reappearing

carefully tended. . .

then fall. . .

the last blooms, saving some

drying them for winter

memories until spring.

Tagged...

About a month or two ago, Mark and I got an e-mail saying that we have been "tagged." We didn't know what it meant so just deleted it. Since that time, after reading many blogs and e-mails where someone has been "tagged," I think I now understand. So, Suzy has tagged me (and I believe everyone who reads her blog) so I decided to list 6 things about me... Since I don't have my own blog, I am using the family blog.

1. I have a major sleeping disorder! I CAN'T sleep in! (At least Mark thinks it is a disorder, but I quite like it.) I love mornings! I think it is genetic. My parents were always up around 5:00am. We had no chance of sleeping in because of the noise my mom made by being "productive." I find myself doing the same things now and mornings are my most (only) productive part of the day.

2. I can't stand being late! For some this might be a good quality, but it's not for me and my family. About 5 mins before we are supposed to leave to go somewhere, I turn into "stress woman" or "the time witch," whatever you want to call me, it is not good! I'm trying to do better and I think I have relaxed over the years, but I still like being on time!

3. I hate sock and shoes...I'm a flip-flop/sandals girl! I think that all happened while living in LA for 6 years! I just can't stand my feet getting hot and sweaty....except when I have my cowboy boots on!! (see below)

4. I WANT TO BE A COWGIRL! I love my cowboy boots and would wear them everyday if it were cold enough (don't like sweaty feet!) I have always had a dream of living in the country on a huge piece of land with horses, animals (outside) and a garden. I want a lot of big shade trees, a nice porch with a swing to sit outside and watch my kids or grand kids play. I'm far from that right now, but someday...(it's Mark's dream too!)

5. I am 3 classes short of my bachelors degree!!! This is a terrible confession but I hope by confessing it, I will be able to do it! For the past almost 11 years, I have used the excuse of being either pregnant or having a new baby or some other excuse. Now that I'm not pregnant and my baby is getting bigger, I don't have the excuse! 2008 is the year! I'm confessing this so you all can bug me about it when you see me. I need the push!

6. Hobby??????????????? Whenever someone asks me to list my hobbies my stomach turns because I'm still not sure what my hobbies are. I'm still trying to find them. For the last 12 years, my hobby has been doing what I love most! Being a wife and mom. I don't know if I'll ever find a hobby that I love more. My husband and kids are everything to me. Here is our most recent picture of the kids taken the other night during FHE...

Yes, those are swim diapers on their heads! Jessica began playing with one during the lesson, Mark put it on her head, laughter started as everyone got involved. It became one of our funnest FHE activities yet! I snapped this picture and all of them are actually looking at the camera smiling! Last week we tried to get a shot for Christmas cards and not one turned out. Wouldn't you know that this one, not planned and with diapers on their heads is great! Don't be surprised if you see this in your Christmas card! Ha Ha. Any way, Mark also got involved in the fun and made his own, custom, diaper-head hat!

I know I'm so dead for posting this picture...but I'm sure it will make you laugh!Well, now that I wrote a book, that was quite fun. I would love to read about all of you so now you are all "tagged."

Music . . .

Truman family
musicians . . .

Abby, Ben, Harry, Maddy, and Rachel
in recital performance.

Tonight after Sunday dinner at
Maria and Mark's
we had a family recital
& all played their memorized music
with Tom playing his first piano song
and the little girls twirling and dancing to
the music.
How blessed we are to have music in our lives!
