Thanks to all of you for your generous gifts! Grandpa is excited to rebuild his tool collection in his new garage. And I'm apprehensive but eager to have a new face!

This a repeat of my new blog....I couldn't resist! I have actually just taken my internal dialogue and put it to paper, metaphorically speaking. But you've got to go to www.mormon.org and watch the videos of all the people. So powerful! They are actual conversion stories and they will stand out and the Spirit will speak to those that are searching all over! It's amazing! Great FHE!

So fun to see everyone last night! Wish Dad could have been there! Oh well, I guess since you're Bishop and HAVE to be at your meetings...we'll forgive you! :)

The Atonement

Bruce R. McConkie, the apostle who gave such a powerful testimony in General Conference shortly before he passed on while we were living in Bountiful, has this to say about the atonement:

"Now, the atonement of Christ is the most basic and fundamental doctrine of the gospel, and it is the least understood of all our revealed truth. Many of us have a superficial knowledge and rely upon the Lord and his goodness to see us through the trials and perils of life. But if we are to have faith like Enoch and Elijah we must believe what they believed, know what they knew, and lived as they lived. May I invite you to join with me in gaining a sound and sure knowledge of the Atonement. we must cast aside the philosophies of men and the wisdom of the wise and hearken to the Spirit which is given to us to guide us into all truth. We must search the scriptures, accepting them as the mind and will and voice of the Lord and the very power of God unto salvation. " (CR, April 1985)

Elder McConkie gave this last speech in April, 1985. I remember vividly stopping to listen to his testimony. We were all cleaning up the construction refuse left as we were building our house in the hill in Bountiful. It was a beautiful Saturday morning and we had a radio outside so we could listen to conference as we worked. As he gave his speech the power of the word as he bore testimony stopped us and we listened as he testified that he knew Jesus was the Christ as well at that moment as he would when crossed the veil to embrace Him. " I am one of his witnesses, and in a coming day I shall feel the nail marks in his hands and in his feet and shall wet his feet with my tears. But I shall not know any better then than I know now that he is God’s Almighty Son.” He was gone within a few weeks.
